The principal benefit of collections is that they standardize the way groups of objects are handled by a program. All collections are designed around a set of cleanly defined interfaces. Several built-in implementations of these interfaces are provided, which you can use as-is. You can also implement your own collection, but you will seldom need to. Administrative distance ranks the IP routing protocols, assigning a value, or weight, to each protocol. Distances can range from 0 to 255. A smaller distance is more believable by a router, with the best distance being 0 and the worst, 255. Table 15-2 displays some of the default administrative distances Cisco has assigned to its IP routing protocols. Going back to the previous example of a router learning network 10.0.0.0/8 from RIP and EIGRP, since RIP has a value of 120 and EIGRP 90, the router will use the EIGRP route, since this protocol has a better (lower) administrative distance value.

Your first two sample programs, while illustrating several important features of the C++ language, are not very useful. The next sample program actually performs a meaningful task: It converts gallons to liters. It also shows how to input information.

In the extreme case of a polar bond, one of the atoms may have such a strong pull on the electrons that an electron is completely stripped away from the weaker atom. This lost electron, instead of being shared, only orbits the atom with the strong pull. The end result is that each atom becomes an ion. The atom that loses an electron becomes a positive ion. While the atom that gains an electron becomes a negative ion. The force holding the two atoms together no longer results from both nuclei being attracted to the shared electrons. Instead it results from the electrostatic attraction between ions, one positively charged and the other negatively charged.
