In addition to creating explicit, overloaded versions of a generic function, you can also overload the template specification itself. To do so, simply create another version of the template that differs from any others in its parameter list. For example:

Typically, the delivery of a complex hardware server system (especially complex customized configurations, containing multiple product lines) requires months of delivery time. When the customer is dealing with a local representative who may be halfway round the world from the productions source, getting the order right and delivered on time is nearly impossible. The field office creates the order for the system, doing the best job it can in specifying the configuration. Unfortunately, they typically have no idea of what the production schedules or inventory levels are. This can result in long delays in the fulfillment of the order. Here is a typical example: The customer orders a system with two, 9-gigabyte hard drives. What the configurator in the field office couldn t know is that the factory has stopped ordering 9 GB drives and has gone to 18 GB drives as the standard drive. The order waits on the shelf until some 9 GB drives can be ordered and delivered. Note that the order processing folks can t take it upon themselves to substitute an 18 GB drive. Two 9 GB drives were ordered, and that is what must be delivered! Now let s examine the same delivery problem with an Extranet, where the production schedules and inventory levels are available to the field offices by signing onto our home office Web site. The sales representative, or technical support representative, can log into the site with the customer right there. The parts and price list are right there. They can use the online system configuration software to select hardware components, including redundant power supplies and processors, if required. When they get to specifying the two 9 GB drives, they find that inventory is nonexistent, and there is a 60-day wait if they are backordered. They find that the 18 GB drives are in stock. The customer, on the spot, opts for the 18 GB drives because it means a difference in delivery schedule from two weeks to two months. (The customer planned on mirroring the data on the drives, and therefore needed two physical drives instead of the single 18 GB drive.) The customer is ecstatic with our ability to be responsive to his/her needs and to deliver the equipment so quickly.

When you ve marked down the lengths for all the sensors, add up all the runs and then buy the appropriate amount of cabling. At a home improvement store, you can either buy it by the spool (it normally comes in spools of 500 feet) or you can buy specific lengths and pay by the foot. It might be most convenient to simply buy the spool you re going to need a lot of cable, plus you don t want it to get tangled up.

test antenna is speci ed as a dipole. However, a whip antenna mounted on a roving vehicle is often used to locate leaks, which are then measured with the dipole. The detecting receiver is either a signal-level meter of suf cient sensitivity or a special leakage-detecting receiver. Several instrument manufacturers make a combination test transmitter/receiver pair, and cable operators often have several receivers for ongoing leakage monitoring. If television channel 6 is used as a test frequency and the leakage measured is at the 20-mV limit, the following formula can then relate this level to a voltage value: E where E 0.0207F(Vr),
