All administrative maintenance to a Hot Desktop environment must be performed after bypassing the automatic logon process of the Hot Desktop Shared Account. To bypass the automatic logon process, hold the shift key during the Windows logon process. For more information on bypassing the automatic logon process please see Microsoft knowledgebase articles 310584 and 324737.

Presentation Server scalability is dependent on the underlying Windows operating system architecture. Since Windows 2000, each subsequent Windows release has increased the scalability of Presentation Server. The next section illustrates how user scalability is affected when the server hardware remains the same and the operating system is upgraded. The operating system scalability enhancements when upgrading Windows versions is due in large part to kernel memory enhancements. When moving from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003, the scalability increase is attributed to substantial memory manager changes that allow the operating system to use kernel memory more efficiently when compared to Windows 2000 Server. These changes include an increased number of System PTEs and dynamic allocation of kernel memory. When moving from the 32-bit Windows 2000 and Windows 2003, the scalability increase is due to the increase of kernel memory size from 2GB to 8TB. Table E-2 shows the difference in user scalability across Windows 2000 Server, Windows Server 2003 32-bit, and Windows Server 2003 x64 running Presentation Server. For this test, the Light User test profile was used, since it is indicative of kernel memory bound environments. All measurements for this test scenario were gathered on a server with four AMD 848 Opteron processors running at 2.2 GHz with 1MB L2 cache. NOTE For specific server details, please refer to the Hardware section at the end of this chapter.

If this weren t enough in itself to justify a second hard drive, consider this: Computer experts are fond of telling you to back up the data on your hard drive. These experts usually have someone else backing up their data. A second drive can cut in half the dreary job of backup. Here s how. Move all of your data files to your new larger, faster hard drive, drive D:. Never install programs on it. If the programs automatically save such things as macros and settings to a hard drive, try to get the programs to use the new drive. Now, on your old C: drive, keep only your programs and never save any data files, which are photos, letters, spreadsheets, anything you created using the programs. From now on, forget about backing up the C: drive. If it crashes, you can reinstall all the programs that were on it, which should take no more than an afternoon. But you must back up your D: drive. It s filled with files you can t buy and reinstall because you created them. If you don t need some files badly enough to back them up, zap them. But do regularly back up what s left. It s not hard this way. I know that doesn t have a lot to do with digital photography, but it s good advice anyway.

Bleed is a printer s term for the margin between the outside edges of your design and the dimensions of what you re printing on. Bleed is frequently used to contain an unimportant excess amount of a design that is later trimmed to the final dimensions of what you need printed. If you ve chosen to add a page background or have objects overlapping the edge of your document page, increasing the bleed amount enables you to include more of these areas on the printed output material. To toggle display of the currently set bleed amount, click the Show Bleed Area option in the Options dialog. If the bleed area displayed on your page looks wrong for example, it s wide and your page is tall you need to go to Print Setup

you set the exposure bracketing by choosing how much the EV of one image is underexposed and how much the EV of another image is overexposed. The settings for cameras differ. Some cameras have settings that show the number of f-stops. Choosing a setting of 1 changes the EV of the image by one f-stop. Refer to your camera manual for additional information. Auto-exposure bracketing ensures that one of the images will be properly exposed. When you download the images to your computer, you can save the image that suits your needs and discard the others.
