Up to this point, we have been using simple class hierarchies consisting of only a base class and a derived class. However, you can build hierarchies that contain as many layers of inheritance as you like. As mentioned, it is perfectly acceptable to use a derived class as a base class of another. For example, given three classes called A, B, and C, C can be derived from B, which can be derived from A. When this type of situation occurs, each derived class inherits all of the traits found in all of its base classes. In this case, C inherits all aspects of B and A.
Another part of the battery selection process is selecting the proper wire sizes between the batteries and the motors. The electrical wires must withstand the current requirements without overheating. The wire s current rating is determined by the gauge of the wire and the type and thickness of the insulation around the wires. If the wire size is too small for the amount of current passing through it, the wire will heat up to the point where the insulation will melt and in the worse case, the wire may melt. Table 5-3 shows the conservative American Wire Gauge (AWG) values for various maximum currents through copper wire. Will you be photographing in inclement conditions or while canoeing or kayaking If so, consider purchasing a camera that has a waterproof body. As of this writing, Bushnell, Olympus, and Pentax offer digital cameras with waterproof bodies. In fact, Pentax has a digital SLR with a waterproof body. Alternatively, you may be able purchase a waterproof housing for your camera, which enables you to shoot underwater. Will you be photographing sporting events If so, your camera should have a sports shooting mode or allow you to select a shooting mode that gives you the option of setting the shutter speed, which enables you to freeze action such as athletes in motion. With a camera that enables you to manually set shutter speeds, another option to shoot with a slower shutter speed and pan to capture compelling images of fast-moving objects like race cars and motorcycles. The end result is a photograph that shows sharp detail on the moving object with a blurred background to give the viewer the sensation of speed. Will you be photographing portraits of people If so, your camera needs a portrait mode. Better yet, the camera should have an aperture-preferred shooting mode and a fast telephoto lens with an aperture setting of f/2.8, which enables you to create a limited depth of field, where your subject is in clear focus, but the background and foreground are blurry. Do you own a 3-5mm SLR film camera manufactured by Canon, Minolta, Nikon, or Pentax If you own a Canon, Nikon, or Pentax film camera, your auto-focus (AF) lenses may work with the manufacturer s digital SLR. If you own a Minolta film camera with A-mount lenses, they can be used with the Sony Alpha digital SLR. Do you want the capability of editing your images after downloading them to your computer If so, your camera should include image-editing software. If the camera has Adobe Photoshop Elements, Corel Paint Shop Pro, or similarly powerful software, you can use these applications to color-correct, resize and crop images, and much more. Do you want the capability of printing photo-quality prints of your images If so, your camera should be 4.0 megapixels or greater. A 4.0-megapixel camera in its best shooting mode will give you high-quality 4 6 inch prints; a 5.0-megapixel or better camera will yield images as large as 8 10 inches. Will you be shooting in low light If so, your camera should offer the option to set the ISO rating. The camera should also have a maximum setting of ISO 400 or higher. Image stabilization is another handy option if you shoot in low light.

In the first case that level of detail will not be available until it has evolved from the project s development. These different types of modeling relate to the project phases; both will have their application in realistic BIM management. In both cases the learning process is essentially that of evaluating the simulation and checking it against the modeler s understanding of it (the internal visualization) so that the model can be adjusted as required. In other words, the learning is centered on the ability to develop the model into an acceptable representation of what is visualized. All exercises need to focus on gaining control over the modeling software. It is easy to fall into the trap of wanting to adjust the model based on the ability to control the software. It is more important to learn the tools well enough to be able to model what is required, in order to avoid having to compromise the model. It is critical to learn to be professional in the use of the tools. Most modeling software represents the basic construction components with basic modeling tools (i.e., slabs, walls, roofs, and various objects); however, there are always challenges that require the fabrication of special building parts, representing more complex objects, from basic modeling forms. Since the model is a schematic representation of an actual structure, it is necessary to choose the appropriate level of detail to represent the critical components of the project. Becoming more familiar with the software tools and having a better understanding of the purpose of the model will make these decisions more comfortable. With respect to this subject, there is no substitute for software skills, creativity, and experience. Model Accuracy Accuracy is of the utmost importance in the BIM. In schematic level models, although the actual (final) dimensions of objects are not usually known, it is still important to try to be as accurate as possible to facilitate the further development of the model. More detailed models need to be absolutely accurate, as any inaccuracy can become the source of great difficulty in further model development or analysis. In the class exercises students have the unfailing responsibility to avoid fractional dimensions whenever possible, in other words, to be accurate and not just close. This is a critical habit, and it takes very little additional energy to do it right. It will save enormous amounts of time and energy during later stages of the model development. One of the current areas of research in the BIM field is tolerance. Tolerance is what makes theoretical components fit into a real world. Models are theoretical and thus need to be perfect from a design standpoint, tolerance is what is built in so that the real components will be able to fit in the assembly. This subject relates to the use of the model in place of traditional shop drawings for fabrication purposes, where accuracy is clearly necessary for successful production and installation. It is also readily apparent that in the combination of several models into a viewer, it is critical that all models fit in relation to each other. This is referred to as registration. Registration needs to be planned beforehand and executed meticulously. Careful collaboration, so fundamental to this process, is required to have properly registered models in the viewer.
