Revenues from Ethernet-based services worldwide are fairly significant and in the range of over $2 billion (based on 2005 figures from Infonetics). Ethernet is slowly beginning to dominate niche markets such as the metro access portion of Service Provider networks. Its ability to enable broadband access is without question beginning to extend to the MAN and WAN as well. However, Ethernet beyond the LAN especially deeper in the MAN and WAN is still is a long way from dominating the market, notwithstanding the overwhelming advantages discussed earlier. Apart from its relatively late entry, at least in a substantial way, Ethernet s transition to becoming a serious contender as a Service Provider offering in the MAN, and WAN, requires it to support numerous other capabilities that are essential to competing with existing solutions such as ATM and Frame Relay. Figure 1.18 illustrates the spending of U.S. enterprises for broadband services today; Ethernet accounts for only a paltry 3 percent of spending. I used to post photos of these old men with gray hair and pot guts who mysteriously turned out for my high school reunion (Figure 7-6). Even at low resolution and high compression, the photos collectively were too big to send to everyone through e-mail. Posting the 80 photos on took about 10 minutes, and the results, which you can see in Figure 7-6, look a lot neater than a bunch of JPEG files wrapped up in a zip file.
In order to run Resource Manager, you will need XenApp Server 4.5 Enterprise or Platinum edition. If you wish to keep historical data beyond the four-hour real-time view, you must configure a Summary Database using a SQL 2000/2005 or Oracle 9i/10g database server. Resource Manager is installed as a component of the XenApp Server installation. You need to decide on at least one server to act as the farm metric server. The farm metric server interprets metrics that apply to the entire farm and sends alerts if configured to do so. Before you can begin using the Summary Database, you need to install and configure a database in either SQL or Oracle. For this example, we are using SQL Server. Create a new database and ensure that the database server has enough room to store a month s worth of data. From there, we will create a system data source name (DSN) and finally configure the server to connect to the database server. Setting a System Data Source Name To set a system data source name for the Microsoft SQL Server DBMS, follow these steps: 1. Choose a server to be your Database Connection Server. 2. Open the ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog box on this server. a. If your Database Connection Server is a 32-bit server, select Start | Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Data Sources (ODBC). b. If your Database Connection Server is a 64-bit server, select Start | Run, type %SystemRoot%\SysWow64\odbcad32.exe, and then press Enter. 3. Select the System DSN tab. Click Add. 4. In the Create New Data Source dialog box, select SQL Server. Click Finish. 5. In the Microsoft SQL Server DSN Configuration dialog box, type rmsummarydatabase in the Name box. Type a description (optional) and then select the server with the DBMS installed on it from the Server list. Click Next. NOTE: You must type rmsummarydatabase exactly. Any spaces or spelling errors will make the database unrecognizable to the Database Connection Server. However, the field is not casesensitive. 6. Select how Microsoft SQL Server authenticates your identification; you can set up the system DSN in one of two ways: Click With Windows NT authentication using the network login ID to use Windows NT authentication. Click With SQL Server authentication using a login ID and password entered by the user. Then select the Connect to SQL Server to obtain default settings for the additional configuration options check box and type a user name and password in the Login ID and Password boxes, respectively.

The cylindrical blade cam in Fig. 1.14 has two designs, the rst type to drive a translating or oscillating follower (Fig. 1.14a) and the second type to index the intermittent action of a turret through its start stop cycle (Fig. 1.14b), which indicates an indexing tapered roller turret. The globoidal cam rotates about its axis driving a roller follower. It is similar in appearance and action to the cylindrical cam. The globoidal cam shape is determined by the arcs of an oscillating or indexing follower. There are two types of globoidal cams. The rst kind has a groove with a circumferential contour cut in its surface for an oscillating roller follower. This type of globoidal cam is either convex (Fig. 1.15a), or concave (Fig. 1.15b). These cams are applied for small angles of follower oscillation. The second type of globoidal cam has a twisting blade or thread projecting from its surface. This blade cam is called the roller gear drive or Ferguson drive and has a roller follower on each side of the threads. The follower may oscillate or have intermittent rotation.
