Many carriers felt that the best way to implement LNP is to establish databases that contain the customer routing information necessary to route telephone calls to the appropriate terminating switches. The LNP database, similar to that already used by the telecommunications industry to provide 800-number portability, will use intelligent network or AIN capabilities. These capabilities separate the customer-identification information from the call-routing information. Rather than establishing one national database, similar to the 800-number database, carriers will provide LNP via a system of multiple, regional databases. A national LNP database is not feasible, simply because one database could not store the telephone numbers for the entire United States population or even the subset of the largest metropolitan areas. Further, a regional database system offers specific advantages for carriers deploying LNP. Regional databases effectively reduce the distance over which carriers must transmit routing information. By minimizing that distance, a regional system reduces the associated routing costs incurred by the carriers. A regional database system also ensures that carriers will have all the number portability routing information they need to route calls between carriers networks for that regional area. Because many of the major carriers install their own SCP where the LNP database resides, a single access point must be provided to effectively manage and distribute updates to the common regional LNP database. These updates will provide all carriers with the changes made when end users port from one Local Service Provider to another. Most states have decided that a Number Portability Administration Center (NPAC), similar to the arrangement used for 800-number portability, should be used. The LNP task force in Illinois issued an RFP to the industry to solicit technical (and financial) proposals for the NPAC. Lockheed-Martin was chosen to develop and administer the NPAC in Illinois. Other companies were selected by different regions, but complications arose and Lockheed-Martin was selected to replace those who could not deliver. Management of the LNP database by a third party will ensure the security of all carriers customer bases. The full scenario of a call process is shown in Figure 5-5 , using the components of the network and the databases.

The splitter amplifies incoming signals, increasing the gain (in the 4-way model) by 8dB to each of its outputs, as compared to a 7dB loss in most 4-way splitters. The 8-way model provides a 4dB gain as compared to the 11dB loss experienced by most 8-way splitters. The maximum range on these amplifiers is 200 feet for the 4-way model and 100 feet for the 8-way model. The 4- and 8-way amplified splitters sell for US$99.99 or $114.99, respectively. Installation of the splitters requires the following steps:

1. The data sought in the literature study includes: Procedures followed in the computation of depth of scour. Models utilized in the computation of the depth of scour. Field observation data on depth of scour of existing structures. Variations used on standard models, such as HEC 18 in computing the depth of scour. Success and failures of models utilized in analysis. Physical parameters used in analysis of the depth of scour. In uence of existing protective measures used to control depth of scour on the computed depth of scour. 2. The rst part of the literature search shall discuss experience in bridge scour depths and locations. The second part shall discuss the analytical process to determine various types of scour components. Determination of type of scour Scour depth and scour holes Effects of overtopping 3. Selection and design of scour countermeasures, incuding: Methods for existing bridges Methods for new bridges Methods for unknown foundations. Alternative evaluation: Based on condition assessment ndings, potential repair/remediation recommendations will be developed. Fluctuating river elevations will be taken into account when developing repair recommendations and reviewing the construction feasibility. Evaluation shall include, but is not limited to: 1. Evaluation of constructability. 2. Construction staging. 3. Community impacts during construction: emergency vehicle response, tourist industry, traf c delays, impacts to pedestrians and bicyclists, impacts to local business, and noise. 4. Construction cost estimates shall be developed for each feasible alternative, along with the anticipated construction schedule. 5. Maintenance of traf c schemes for each feasible alternative. 6. You can easily get lost when drilling within a report. Therefore, it s helpful to first understand how the different universe objects relate to one another and where you are drilling from and to. Figure 19-10 shows two sample hierarchies for the eFashion universe, Time and Product. Each has four levels. It s also important to understand that most drilling occurs within a local microcube. You are not requerying the database. Figure 19-11 shows how this works. For simplicity, I will use an example of a Time dimension that contains Year, Quarter, Month. When you construct a query, you first specify which columns of data you want to retrieve from the database. Initially, the default report displays all columns of data. However, as you format the report, remove columns, and create objects, you may hide certain columns. These columns still exist in the query and therefore in the microcube, but they are not displayed in the report. In Figure 19-11, Quarter and Month exist in the microcube but are not displayed in the report. This allows you to drill from Year to Quarter to Month without having to execute a new query.
