The prototype for strtok( ) is in <string.h>. The strtok( ) function returns a pointer to the next token in the string pointed to by str1. The characters making up the string pointed to by str2 are the delimiters that determine the token. A null pointer is returned when there is no token to return.

No, not a truck. Flatbed describes the most common type of scanner. It has a flat bed of glass on which you lay facedown the object to be scanned. There are other scanners that have document feeders that allow you to scan dozens of pages automatically. These are helpful if you are planning to use optical character recognition (OCR) to convert printed pages of text into words you can edit on your computer. A flatbed lets you scan any size document up to its maximum size, and they most often come with OCR software so you can do text conversion as well, without the automatic feeding. But our focus is on photos, and a flatbed, such as the one shown in Figure 2-2, is the most versatile, as well as the least expensive way to get printed photos into your computer.

Systems are rarely fault-free, and faults, invariably, have consequences. Four types of faults bad records, improperly revealed information, inoperative networks, and CRDs are worth noting. Bad records are a problem when people make bad decisions based on them. One argument against mandating IDs for employment (so as to discourage illegal immigration) is that a one percent error rate would keep a million legal Americans out of work while problems were fixed (compared to an estimated population of two to three million employable illegal aliens). The system discussed here will also inevitably contain errors, both in registering people and in tracking their whereabouts. The best that can be said is that the consequences of those errors will be mitigated by the fact that at least tracking will be largely automated (proper systems design convert some ambiguous errors into obvious ones). The consequences of error are also softened insofar as the purpose of collecting checkpoint information is more to suggest (for example, that a person may be engaged in suspicious activity) than decide (for example, to give someone access or not).

tube containing the solid naphthalene is again partially submerged in the boiling water bath. Heat the test tube until the naphthalene is melted and you can remove the thermometer and stirrer as a unit. CAUTION: The thermometer, stirring wire, and test tube may be hot. Do not discard the naphthalene. Remove all the naphthalene from the stopper, thermometer, and stirrer by washing them with acetone. Measure the mass of the test tube and naphthalene again and calculate the mass of naphthalene remaining in the test tube. Record these values in Data Table 1. Add about 1 g of 1,4-dichlorobenzene to the test tube. Measure the mass of the test tube and its contents, and calculate the mass of 1,4dichlorobenzene that has been added. Record these values in Data Table 1. Make sure that the stopper, thermometer, and stirrer are dry and free of acetone. Repeat Part A, steps 2 and 3. Repeat Part A, steps 6 through 9.

MGCP describes a model containing endpoints and connections. Endpoints are sources or sinks of media and include such elements as trunk interfaces or plain old telephone service (POTS) line interfaces. Endpoints exist within MGs, and depending on the type of endpoint, it might or might not have one or more external channel or line interfaces. For example, an analog line endpoint would be connected to a physical analog line, which would in turn connect to an analog telephone. On the other hand, endpoints also exist that have no external connections. One example is an announcement endpoint that would reside internally in the gateway. Other entities in the IP network would connect to it for the purpose of retrieving an announcement. Connections are the allocation of IP resources to an endpoint such that the endpoint may be accessed from the IP network. For example, when a call is to be established across a gateway from a circuit-switched line to an IP interface, an ad hoc relationship is established between the circuitswitched line and an RTP port on the IP side. This relationship is called a connection, and a single endpoint can have several connections. A general representation of endpoints and connections is provided in Figure 6-5.
