ne of the great strengths of building a business intelligence application is that it allows analysts and advanced data users to perform extremely detailed and complex analysis of the data. This capability, often simply called analytics, goes well beyond the relatively simple and rigidly structured scorecards and reports often available to the general business users and higher level management. Business decision makers rarely have access to the tools to perform advanced analysis on their own, simply because they lack either the time or the expertise to do so. In addition, many businesses employ analysts who are well versed in statistical methods and are therefore tasked with performing in-depth analysis of the data. Delivering tools that provide the functionality needed for advanced analytics has always been a challenge; the more powerful the tools become, the more difficult they are to use. The good news is that many tools today, while still very powerful, are easier to use than ever. This doesn t mean that just anyone can pick them up and make them work, but it does open them up to an ever-widening audience. Today s tools also allow analysts to create complex reports or views of the data and then share these views with everyone else in the organization, greatly increasing the utility of the work done by analysts. As discussed in 2, PerformancePoint Server has three major areas of focus: monitoring, analyzing, and planning. The analysis piece is arguably the least complete in this first version of PerformancePoint Server. While it will someday include most or all of the functionality found in ProClarity today, this first version of PerformancePoint Server will also include licenses for ProClarity, to benefit those needing truly advanced analytics. Therefore, this chapter will first cover the analytics that are built into PerformancePoint Server and then discuss ProClarity specifically the ProClarity Standard and Professional interfaces and the ProClarity Analytics Server.

By default, when you create an open or closed path, it s given a -point-wide outline in black, with no fancy extras. Part of the rationale for this default is that vector paths can t really be seen without some sort of width. In contrast, bitmap artwork by definition is made up of pixels, written to screen and written to file; so when a user draws an outline, it always has a width (it s always visible). Happily, vector drawing programs can display a wide range of path properties, and unlike with bitmap outlines, you can change your mind at any time and easily alter the property of an outline. In a number of areas in CorelDRAW, you can apply a property such as color, stroke width, and other fun stuff to an open or closed path (and even to open paths that don t touch each other but have been unified using the Arrange | Combine command). The following sections explore your options and point out the smartest and most convenient way to travel in the document window to quickly arrive at the perfect outline. When an open path or an object (which necessarily has to be described using a path) is selected on the page, the Property Bar offers a lot of options for outline properties. You can also dig into the Outline Pen Toolbox flyout (and even detach it to make it persistent in the workspace for repeated access), and there s also the Properties dialog accessed from the pop-up menu when you right-click a path, and ALT-ENTER also gets you there. Some shortcuts for performing simple property adjustments are covered on the long and winding path through this chapter.

his chapter will introduce you to the Cisco Modular Policy Framework (MPF) feature on the security appliances. MPF was actually ported from the Cisco IOS routers and switches and added to version 7.0 of the appliances. Obviously many similarities exist in the operation and use of MPF on both platforms; however, there are differences: MPF is primarily used to implement security functions on the appliance. The topics included in this chapter are An introduction to MPF on the appliances How class maps are used to classify traffic How policy maps are used to associate policies to class maps How service policies are used to activate policy maps

efforts of several manufacturers, the FCC and Cable Labs, as well as the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, the digital method Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG) II was approved and adopted. This MPEG II method carries the digital video signal in a compressed format along with CD-like multi-television sound (MTS) quality. The digital numbers forming the bit-stream activate pixels of the proper color on the display screen. In compressed form, only the changes in picture content are transmitted, resulting in a decrease in the overall bit rate required to provide a picture frame. Using digital technology, the encryption or encoding needed for premium programming can be built into the digital information stream. For an aspect ratio of 4 :3 (NTSC format) and with present video picture quality, the video signal in compressed format requires less channel bandwidth than the present 6-MHz television band. Thus, four equivalent television channels with present NTSC quality standards can be carried in the 6MHz band with MPEG II video compression technology. This implies that each television broadcast station can gain three more equivalent channels, along with three times the advertising slots, by converting to the MPEG II digital compression standards. Broadcast stations desiring to carry the HDTV standard signal form will require full use of the 6-MHz band for both video and sound. The HDTV standard uses a 16 :9 aspect ratio and more pixels per picture, resulting in near-35-mm motion picture quality. Several broadcast stations in the three major networks are preparing their transmission facilities for digital signals. At this writing, it seems that the VSB-8 method of modulation will be used for over-the-air broadcasts and will be covered in 5. Cable systems are opting for QAM-16, 64, or 256 digital modulation for over-the-cable transmission. 1.332 As stated earlier, the initial trial into improved television transmission quality, during which several manufacturing companies experimented with several methods, was called advanced television (ATV). The resulting push for some sort of standard resulted in General Instrument Corporation s research on digital television technology. The FCC appointed a committee to investigate all of the proposed methods, and the acceptance of MPEG II digital video compression was the obvious choice. At rst, the industry-sponsored Grand Alliance studied the ATV and HDTV proposals. An FCC-appointed committee was formed from this group. As mentioned before, the present MPEG II digital compression standard was approved. The FCC gave the green light to trials in 1998 and has
