Analysis Services has a fixed server role that automatically includes members of the local Administrators group on the host server. To perform any administrative task within an Analysis Services instance, the active user must be a member of the local Administrators group. Any member of this group has complete access to every cube and database on the server. As an alternative, you use database roles to grant administrative permissions such that a user can administer one database but can be excluded from administering a different database.

User controls are portions of HTML and script code stored in .ascx files. User controls are similar to .aspx files, and in fact you can easily convert a functioning .aspx page into a user control. ASP.NET compiles .ascx files on the fly the first time they re referenced from inside a page, which is similar to what happens to .aspx pages the first time they re requested by the client browser. User controls are also useful for implementing so-called partial or fragment caching, in which only the output from a portion of an .aspx page is cached. Custom controls are compiled components that can encapsulate complex functionality and contain simpler controls. Custom controls use inheritance to gain the functionality of a simpler class, such as Control, WebControl, or an existing Web control, such as the TextBox. Authoring custom controls is more complex than writing user controls, but custom controls let you precisely define what the browser receives.

Table 11-1 System Data Types in SQL Server 2005 (continued) Data Type float[(n)] Description Floating-point numerical data that n can range from 1.79E +308 to 1 24 2.23E 308, 0, and 2.23E 308 to 25 53 1.79E+308. The value n is the number of bits used to store the mantissa of the float number in scientific notation, and can range from 1 to 53. For 1<= n <=24, SQL Server treats n as 24. For 25<=n<=53, n is treated as 53. The default for n is 53. Floating-precision numerical data that can range from 3.40E + 38 to 1.18E 38, 0, and 1.18E 38 to 3.40E + 38 . The synonym for real is float(24). Date and Time Smalldatetime Date and time data from January 1, 1900, through June 6, 2079, with accuracy to the minute. It is stored in two 2-byte integers. The first stores the number of days past January 1, 1900 and the second stores the number of minutes past midnight. 4 bytes Storage Size Precision 7 digits 15 digits Storage 4 bytes 8 bytes Approximate Numerics

Actually, nothing is wrong with the code per-se but consider for a moment view-state size and performance. Saving a class type directly in the ViewState container results in the object being serialized using the binary formatter. The BinaryFormatter class the standard way to serialize managed objects in .NET applications is not particularly fast and is designed to save the entire state of the object, including both public and private members, both simple and complex. The use of the BinaryFormatter increases the response time for each request and generates a larger view-state output. By customizing the view-state serialization, you obtain much faster code and save exactly the information you need to save. As a rule of thumb, you should use the ViewState container to store property values if the type of the property is primitive a string, numbers, Boolean values, colors, dates, bytes, and arrays of any of these types. Reference types (for example, custom classes) should be serialized by implementing IStateManager and exposing the property via a get accessor like the one shown previously. As far as control development is concerned, this is commonly required for styles and data item properties.
