This protocol was originally developed for use on networks running Novell NetWare. It s available in Windows XP as an installable option. In the previous edition of this book, we explained how to use IPX/SPX in addition to TCP/IP to work around security issues that result when all network computers share an Internet connection through a hub. Because of the security improvements in Windows XP Service Pack 2, we no longer recommend this configuration. Some older games rely on IPX/SPX. This protocol (short for NetBIOS Extended User Interface) is available as an unsupported option in Windows XP. It was originally developed for use on small networks running Windows 3.x. Because it works by indiscriminately broadcasting packets over the network, NetBEUI can cause performance problems and should only be used when an existing network configuration requires it.

Windows 7 supports both outgoing and incoming dial-up connections . For outgoing connections, Windows 7 is the client and connects to either a remote access server (RAS server) on a remote network (usually the corporate intranet) or a network access device (typically a modem bank) at an ISP . For incoming connections, Windows 7 acts as a mini-RAS server and allows a remote client computer to establish a dial-up connection between the two computers . Some enterprise environments still use RAS servers to provide mobile users with remote connectivity to the corporate network, but most enterprises now use VPN servers instead to save on long-distance telephone costs and the cost of maintaining multiple phone lines for RAS access . This section deals briefly with how to set up a dial-up connection to enable clients running Windows 7 to connect directly to a RAS server .

On the Mail Setup tab, shown in Figure 4-30, you ll nd additional settings that control e-mail accounts and Outlook 2007 messaging functions. For example, you can use the Mail Setup tab to create or modify e-mail accounts and con gure how and when Outlook 2007 sends and receives messages.
Microsoft Windows XP Inside Out, Second Edition You can also format any primary partition or logical drive that currently has a drive letter assigned to it from Windows Explorer: Right-click the drive icon and choose Format from the shortcut menu to display the dialog box shown here. Although the layout of this dialog box is different, the options are exactly the same as those found in the Disk Management window.
One way you can use the extra options in the Find And Replace dialog box is to use a specific format to identify data that requires review. As an example, Consolidated Messenger VP of Marketing Craig Dewar could make corporate sales plans based on a projected budget for the next year and mark his trial figures using a specific format. After the executive board finalizes the numbers, he could use the Find Format capability in the Find And Replace dialog box to locate the old values and change them by hand. The following table summarizes the Find And Replace dialog box controls functions.

amount of space you want to use from each one. On a spanned volume, the portions of unallocated space on each drive can be of different sizes; in the case of a striped drive (as shown here), the two chunks of disk space must be of equal size the wizard will adjust the space on both disks if you change the amount at the bottom of the dialog box. In either case, the Select Disks page displays the total volume size you can expect to end up with.
