WS-Security (Web Services Security Language) is a standard for adding authentication, signatures, and encryption to SOAP Web services communications. It defines exten sions to SOAP that allow you to pass security tokens that you can use to verify the identity of clients, validate that a message has not been modified in transit, and improve the privacy of communications by encrypting a message. The Web Services Interoperability Organization (WS-Interoperability), an organization dedicated to improving Web services standards, published WS-Security in April of 2002, and at the time of this writing, implementations of WS-Security were still evolving.

In the old days, the network administrator had to manually create A (host) records and PTR records for new users that joined a domain.
