The part of the script that deals with the script objects consists of three distinct parts. First the list of script objects is created (lines 16 through 19). This is rather simple: the script loops once for each item in the symbol list, and each repetition, an instance of the script stock is tacked onto the scripts list. The instances of the script object are created using the stock_instance subroutine. Since this subroutine returns an instance of the script object, you can add that object directly to the list (line 18). Now for the second part. After you have gathered a list of instances of the same script object, you can start working with them. To start, call the start_stock subroutine in each instance. The make_new_stock subroutine holds the key to the future success of the stock. It assigns random values to the variables that will determine whether the stock s general direction will be up or down. One of the parameters of that initialization subroutine holds the name of the stock. To call the make_new_stock subroutine in each instance, the script loops through the script object instances list (lines 19 through 21). Notice that in the repeat loop you address each item of stock_script_list one at a time. That s right: since every item of this list is an instance of a script object, you can tell it to execute a command defined in the script object definition. The third and final part of the script (lines 23 through 28) has two nested repeat loops. The outer one is an endless loop with no way out. That s right: if you don t stop the script, the stocks will go up and down forever. The inner loop is similar to the last repeat loop. It loops in the list of script object instances and calls the update_stock subroutine for each script object instance in the list. Download or change the report definition (RDL) file by clicking the Edit and Update links, respectively. Create a linked report, as we discuss in section 8.1.5. To avoid confusion and clutter, you can hide folders or resources by selecting the Hide in List View check box. For example, it is unlikely that you want your users to see shared data source definitions and resources other than the reports in the folder list view. They might confuse these items for reports and attempt to execute them. No special security permission is required to see a hidden item. The item is simply excluded from the folder view, but the user can see all items by clicking the Show Details button. The Show Details mode also displays the last time the reports were run.

If the report is accessed by SOAP, the application can pass the serialized dataset or the path to the dataset file (if the application has persisted the dataset beforehand). Due to the size limitations of the HTTP-GET query string, passing a large dataset as a query parameter is not possible. For this reason, this protocol will seldom be used to request dataset-bound reports. As noted before, if the URL method must be used, the report consumer can save the dataset to a file and pass the file path to the DataSource parameter. Otherwise, the report consumer can leverage HTTP-POST. The implementation pattern that a client application will typically follow when requesting a dataset-bound report by SOAP is shown in listing 13.1.

Conditional formatting enables us to apply formatting to a cell value or an entire row depending upon a condition. You can apply a background color to the row or cell, or change the foreground color. You can also hide or show values based upon a condition. The condition can come from a hardcoded value, or you can compare two columns returned from the same entity. For example, you can choose to view only products where the value for Products In Stock is less than the value for Reorder Point. To apply and configure conditional formatting, follow these steps:
Typically, each view in the ViewModel pattern has its own dedicated ViewModel. This isn t written in stone, but it s how most applications end up being designed. A 1:1 relationship between View and ViewModel eliminates the need to shoehorn in the inevitable compromises, because Views that share the ViewModels diverge in functionality when many Views share the same ViewModel. It s also acceptable, when using smaller ViewModels or nested UserControls, to have a 1:n relationship between the View and the ViewModel. The situation to avoid in most cases is n:1 between View and ViewModel. When naming your ViewModel, pick a consistent convention. I typically name mine with the view name plus ViewModel, so the EmployeeList view has an EmployeeListViewModel class. Some MVVM toolkits expect you to follow a convention so their locator services can find the correct ViewModel for a View.
11.4.2 Implementation
Just as we did in dvdTracker, we ve declared two globals to keep track of the beginning and end of our linked list. The extern keyword at the beginning of the declaration tells the C compiler to link this declaration to the definition of these two globals, which can be found in main.c. If you removed the extern keyword from this line, the compiler would first compile
