A text style determines the appearance of any text you add to a drawing. TextStyle objects represent the settings for different styles and are held in the TextStyles collection. When you first create a drawing, this collection contains only one TextStyle object, named Standard. You can read the settings for this object through code using the GetFont method and the Height, Width, ObliqueAngle, and TextGenerationFlag properties outlined in the following sections. Alternatively, you can view the settings in the Text Style dialog box, which you access through the Format Text Style menu of the AutoCAD interface. Figure 11-9 shows the Text Style dialog box.

Since we initialize the tree with a top-level node, we know this will always exist and appear first in the tree view object s Nodes collection. We select this by assigning this node to the SelectedNode property of the tree. For the Photos menu, you may recall that we created a menuView_Popup event handler that enables this menu only if an album is selected in the ListView control. The existing menuPhotos_Click event handler, shown in the following code, already activates the selected item. This behavior works just fine for our current application, so no changes are required to this handler.

Wiki server architecture is similar to blog server architecture. Wiki servers are based around the same core components: a data store and a transformer that transforms that data into HTML and XML representations. Full-featured wiki servers typically use a multitiered design, like that shown in figure 3.6. The wiki server architecture shown in figure 3.6 is almost identical to the blog server architecture we saw in figure 3.3, so let s just focus on the components that are different.

Back in the pre OS X days, AppleScript traditionally had two value classes for representing file system objects: alias and file specification. You could use aliases for identifying existing files, and you could use file specifications to identify a nonexistent file in an existing folder or disk. An AppleScript object specifier such as file path_string would always produce a value of class file specification, as would the coercion path_string as file specification. Things could get a little confusing if you got AppleScript s file keyword and the Finder s file keyword muddled up, but on the whole it was all pretty straightforward and worked as expected. In Mac OS X, AppleScript s file keyword gets a bit more complicated to use. The original file specification value class is still around in OS X, but unfortunately it lacks proper support for Unicode-based filenames and names longer than 32 characters, both of which are used in OS X. As a result, this class has become obsolete in OS X, and its use nowadays is discouraged; alias and POSIX file value classes are generally used instead. However, even though file specification values may be going away, AppleScript s file keyword is still in common use amongst scripters: Apple has just rejigged how it works a bit in OS X. Although in a few situations it may still produce a file specification value, in most cases an expression such as file "Macintosh HD:Some file.pdf" actually behaves more like a typical application object reference. Unfortunately, this new behavior doesn t work quite as well as it should. To demonstrate the problem, create a new document in Script Editor 2, and type a line like the following: file "Macintosh HD:Applications:" This code looks like it ought to work without any problems; and longtime scripters may well remember lines like this working perfectly in earlier Mac OSs. You also know that the equivalent alias "Macintosh HD:Applications:" will compile and run just fine (assuming the path string is valid for the current user s system), returning an alias value for your Applications folder. Unfortunately, when you run the previous code, you actually end up with a bizarre-sounding error like this: Can t make file Macintosh HD:Applications: into type reference. This sort of thing is really annoying if you want to, say, create an AppleScript file reference in one part of your script and assign it to a variable so it can be used in another part of the script later. For example: set file_ref to file "Macintosh HD:Some file.pdf" Or, for example: set file_ref to file the_file_path In both cases, when AppleScript tries to execute these statements, it raises an error instead; alas, AppleScript just can t seem to evaluate these file specifiers by itself. I hope this will be fixed in some future version, but for now it s just something you have to accept. Fortunately, there isn t any problem when the literal file specifier appears as a parameter in an application or scripting addition command. For example, both of the following commands work as you d expect: tell application "TextEdit" open file the_file_path end tell read file "Macintosh HD:Some file.txt" You can also trick AppleScript so it won t try to evaluate the file some_path specifier itself. You do this by adding the a reference to operator in front of it. The resulting code is a bit clumsy looking, but it gets the job done. For example, to assign a file reference to this variable: set file_ref to a reference to file "Macintosh HD:Some file.pdf"
