The Services property of the ScriptManager contains a collection of ServiceReference objects. A ServiceReference is a reference to a local service on the site. Adding this reference informs the ScriptManager that you would like to include the web service proxy from the service on the page. The Path for the service reference is set to the .asmx file on the site. By default, the InlineScript property of the reference is set to false. However, in this case it s set to true to demonstrate how the web service proxy will be downloaded, in the page, to the browser. When set to false, the JavaScript for the proxy is instead downloaded to the browser separately. Our build will now run every night, with email delivered whether or not it works. This is good, but it is not frequent enough and we don t want to be bothered when the build worked. To get this to work, we set ANT_HOME in the system profile file /etc/profile, and added ANT_HOME/bin to the path; assigning ANT_HOME in the shell script and hard coding the path would avoid this. 16.1.3 Making use of scripting Taking advantage of your operating system s scheduling capabilities is a quick way to automate builds, but does require writing a shell, batch, or Perl wrapper script. Unless you ve built SCM project code fetching into your build file or wrapper script, simply automating a build does not accomplish a lot. There are several ways to improve these types of scheduled builds to be more robust: Put your SCM system s update commands in your wrapper script, or within a separate target of your build file that uses Ant s SCM tasks (see section 10.3). Perhaps even this level of automation will suffice for your needs, but read further to evaluate other tools available that add many more features to continuous integration builds.

This method is responsible for remote lookups of our bean homes. It locates a named object using the specified parameter and, if such an object is found, returns a reference to it. The CommonIssuesBean is responsible for receiving web service calls at Amaya and returning the latest information. Important details about the ComponentLocator The getWebService method in the ComponentLocator class is the first piece of code that explicitly references WebLogic classes. In chapter 4, section 4.3.1, we discussed the architecture of an RPC-style web service. It involves using a stateless session bean to call a servlet that handles the SOAP communication with the web service. In our implementation, WebLogic has provided an implementation of that servlet in the weblogic.soap.servlet package. It shields the developer from much of the detail requiring the simple calling code that is listed in our method. If you were to port this code to another application server or choose to use another SOAP server, this code would have to be modified. There are two other lines in the getWebService method that require further explanation. The first line in the method refers to a class called CommonIssues. There are two methods for invoking an RPC-style web service. You may use a static client to invoke a web service if you have the interfaces to the EJB, parameters, and return types associated with the web service. If not, you may write a dynamic client, which does not explicitly reference those classes in your code. In our case, Amaya implemented their web service using a stateless session bean called CommonIssuesBean. They have provided us with the interface and as a result, we have written our getWebService as a static client. Our reference to the CommonIssues class is a reference to the remote interface of their bean. Finally, we provide a URL for Amaya s web service. The URL begins with http://localhost. This enables you to run the case study on one machine. As we will see when we deploy the application, the Amaya web service is running as a separate application. If you choose to deploy that portion of the application to another machine, merely change the URL in the ComponentLocator class to point to the appropriate location for the WSDL.
