The owner of an object no longer implicitly has full control access. If the object includes an ACE that applies to the object owner (for example, an ACE explicitly for the owner s user account or for a group of which the owner is a member), the owner s access is controlled by that ACE. The owner does have two implicit permissions: Read Permissions and Change Permissions. Permissions for an object owner can be further modified by the Owner Rights security identifier (SID), which is new in Windows Vista. Permission settings assigned to Owner Rights apply to whatever account currently owns the object. These permissions do not survive a change in ownership, however; when you give or take ownership, the Owner Rights ACE is removed. If User Account Control (UAC) is turned on, you might need to respond to a UAC elevation prompt to edit permissions. (You ll know in advance because of the security shield in the Edit button.) That s because ordinarily, you run using the security token of a standard user account, even if you re logged on using an administrator account. If your own account (or a group other than Administrators that includes your account) has full control access (including the ability to change permissions), you won t need to elevate. But if the Administrators group is the only security identifier with Change Permissions permission, you ll need to elevate. For more information about UAC, see Preventing Unsafe Actions with User Account Control, 10. Operating system files are owned by TrustedInstaller (which is actually a service account, not a user account), and only TrustedInstaller has full control access over these files. In previous versions of Windows, the Administrators group owned these files and had full control access which put them at risk from a

Again, there are no changes at all to the controls themselves. For example, to use these styles on your UserControl, the XAML would still look like the following:

The =RIGHT(reference,num_chars) function reads in reference the number of characters, starting from the right, that are specified in num_chars . The =MID(reference,start_num,num_chars) function reads in reference the number of characters, starting at start_num (specifies a position as a number), that are specified in num_chars . Once you ve generated a list like this with formulas, the formulas themselves become superfluous and can be replaced by their results . Therefore, you can copy the range with the formulas and then overwrite this by selecting Home/Paste/Paste Values .

A second major thread in this book is the idea that the process you use to develop software matters a surprising amount. On a small project, the talents of the individual programmer are the biggest influence on the quality of the software. Part of what makes an individual programmer successful is his or her choice of processes. On projects with more than one programmer, organizational characteristics make a bigger difference than the skills of the individuals involved do. Even if you have a great team, its collective ability isn t simply the sum of the team members individual abilities. The way in which people work together determines whether their abilities are added to each other or subtracted from each other. The process the team uses determines whether one person s work supports the work of the rest of the team or undercuts it.
You choose this authentication method in one of two places: on the Managing Multiple Remote Access Servers page of the Routing And Remote Access Server Setup Wizard, as shown in Figure 10-5, or on the Security tab of the server properties dialog box in the Routing And Remote Access console, as shown in Figure 10-6. Note that in the wizard, if you want to use Windows authentication instead of a RADIUS server, you should select the option No, Use Routing And Remote Access To Authenticate Connection Requests.
