The exception inherits from System.Exception and therefore offers you querying of the same types of information as a standard .NET exception. The attributes are very simple, and because they take no arguments, the parentheses may be omitted. Only the presence or absence of the attribute makes a difference; there is no internal structure to these, the simplest of attributes.

CPU spikes will happen from time to time and are typically defined by having the available CPUs more than 80 percent utilized. CPU spikes represent a dichotomy; you don t want to see your CPU s being over utilized and yet you also want to use your available CPU s otherwise they are sitting there idle. Allowing a resource to sit idle could be considered to be a waste, right So, you have to make certain your CPU s are being used efficiently, but not taxed to the point that the server itself is overburdened. CPU spikes are typically the result of query plans that have changed for the worse. But they could also be the result of something else, perhaps your hardware is no longer sufficient or maybe a recent configuration change has caused your CPU to spike. You will typically be asked to investigate a CPU spike after the issue has started, and not before. Therefore, you will need to find ways to find the specific activity that is causing the CPU to spike. You will examine some of those ways in the next section. Another thing to keep in mind is that query plans can change for a variety of reasons. One of the main reasons for a change in plans is a result of a change in the underlying data. All too often I have seen issues with CPU performance as a result of a bad plan caused by data inserts, updates, and deletes. The hard part is knowing whether a plan has gone bad or not. The only way to know if it has gone bad (other than the CPU spike) is to have an idea of what the original (or good) plan looked like. If you do not have a copy of the good plan, then it would not be a correct assumption to simply state that your query plans have gone bad. Even if you look at the plan and see nothing but table scans and hash matches you still cannot assert that the plan has gone bad, unless you have something to compare it with. Therefore, keep that in mind before you rush to make any judgments. Focus on the facts, do your best to isolate the queries that are consuming the most CPU, and then go from there.

The IChannelSender interface is the counterpart of the IChannelReceiver interface and specifies functionality a channel has to support when sending messages to a remote remoting channel. Interface definition: public interface IChannelSender : IChannel { IMessageSink CreateMessageSink(string url, object remoteChannelData, [out] ref string objectURI); } Whereas IChannelReceiver actually is responsible for listening on the transport protocols port and receiving the messages through this port, the channel sender is just responsible for creating a message sink that does the actual protocol handling. This sink will be added to the sink chain of the infrastructure on the last position. This means, as the last sink, it is responsible for sending the message via the corresponding transport protocol across the wire. For example, both HttpClientChannel and TcpClientChannel are implementations of this interface but do not send the message across the wire themselves. They act as a factory for an HttpClientTransport sink and TcpClientTransportSink, respectively. Those sinks are actually sending the message across the wire to the remote endpoint. references: 4: Configuration and Deployment 12: Creation of Sinks 13: Extending .NET Remoting 14: Developing a Transport Channel More information on MSDN: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/cpref/html/ frlrfsystemruntimeremotingchannelsichannelsenderclasstopic.asp
cardinality formula rather than in the join selectivity formula. This means that some queries (multitable joins along the same nullable column, in particular) may produce a higher computed cardinality after the upgrade and therefore may change their execution plans. When you upgrade to 10g, two new strategies are employed for multicolumn joins the multicolumn sanity check, and the concatenated index sanity check. This means that the cardinality of multicolumn joins may again change (increase) on upgrade. There are still cases where you can change the join cardinality by adding extra predicates that are technically redundant. In some cases, it will not always be intuitively obvious that the predicates are redundant. On the other hand, there are some cases of code fixes in 9i and 10g that identify some of the classic cases of redundant predicate and ignore them. This means that some queries may show a dramatic increase in join cardinality when you upgrade from 8i to 9i or 10g. Joins involving badly matched tables, may produce better cardinality calculations, hence better plans, if you create histograms on one, or both, ends of the worst-matching columns.
Hmm I tell people the opposite. Assume the SAN is a variable. The SAN team can change it without warning. You can get new neighbors that share your drives, you can have switch failures, and so forth. All these things can change your performance without warning. Perhaps the point is to test to ensure that your SAN remains a constant like it is supposed to, and so that you are alerted when it ceases to be a constant due to some unknown change by an unthinking SAN administrator.
alphabetic characters). Directly after the sort command is a left angle bracket, which directs the contents of the file specified immediately after the bracket into the sort command. This is followed by a right angle bracket, which directs the output of the command into another file.
make an honest attempt to resolve the issues. Make them feel at home in your community. It s a good idea to welcome them aboard, as this creates a personal rapport. Always act in a professional manner, and remember that you only get one chance to make a first impression. Your users ultimately define the difference between a successful message board and a miserable failure if you keep that in mind, and act accordingly, you ll have done well for yourself.
