As we described in the last paragraph, IntelliSense is available simply by typing in a period after the namespace or class. This is referred to as in-line IntelliSense, because you get the IntelliSense directly in line with what you are typing. This is a very powerful tool and can save you a lot of valuable time when coding your web applications. As mentioned briefly, this feature is available from just about anywhere in the IDE that you can type. It is also context sensitive. This means that if you have three script blocks in the Source view of your Web Form, where each is defined as using a different language and one has its runat attribute set to server, the IntelliSense engine will know exactly what to present you with in each block. In addition to this, you can specify a browser type in the HTML Editor toolbar and the IntelliSense engine will validate all client script against the document object model supported by that browser. Another place where IntelliSense is now available that will make life a whole lot easier is in configuration files. Configuration files have an enormous number of options. To memorize all these options is hideous for the average developer. IntelliSense will now quickly show you what is available at each level of the schema and all the attributes available for each element. Setting up the web.config file has also been made easier with the ASP.NET administration tool, which we will examine more closely later on. IntelliSense is really cool. It is not a completely new feature; it has been around for a while. But if you are new to this type of environment, just get coding and play around with it. It will not be long before you are reaping the benefits.

Giving a 3-D effect to a chart is easy: right-click the Chart Item, and select Properties again. This time, select the 3D Effect tab and make sure the Display chart with 3-D visual effect check box is checked. Next, select the Realistic option from among the Shading radio buttons. Also, make sure to check the Orthographic and Cylinder check boxes. Click the OK button to complete the process; see Figure 5-29 for an illustration of these steps.

Then the code calls the GetEmployees() method on the proxy. The return value of GetEmployees() is an object array, which contains two elements. The first element contains the actual return value as returned by the web method, and the second parameter is of type SqlRowCount. The SqlRowCount class contains a property called Count that tells you the number of rows returned by the web method. The records returned by the SELECT query are received as a DataSet object in .NET applications. Hence the code type casts the first element of the array to DataSet. Finally, the DataSet is bound to the DataGridView.
As nearly all the functionality you ll want to implement in a common .NET Remoting scenario can be implemented with IMessageSinks, IClientChannelSinks, or IServerChannelSinks, I suggest you implement functionality by using these instead of custom proxies in .NET Remoting. Sinks provide the additional benefits of being capable of working with configuration files and being chainable. This chaining allows you to develop a set of very focused sinks that can then be combined to solve your application s needs. Custom proxies are nevertheless interesting because they can also be used for local objects. In this case, you don t have to implement a special constructor, only override Invoke(). You can then pass any MarshalByRefObject to another constructor (which is provided by the parent RealProxy) during creation of the proxy. All method calls to this local object then pass the proxy as an IMessage object and can therefore be processed. You can read more on message-based processing for local applications in 11.

Removing NdisWrapper Drivers As mentioned earlier, although NdisWrapper can solve a lot of headaches with nonworking wireless hardware, it isn t perfect. You might find that the Windows driver you install simply doesn t work. In such a case, you can download a different version of the driver and try again. But first you ll need to remove the existing driver. Select Click System Administration Windows Wireless Drivers and enter your password when prompted. In the Windows Network Drivers dialog box, select the driver you want to remove in the left column and click Remove Driver. Click Yes when prompted to confirm the removal. Click Close to exit the tool.
