The location of controls on your user interface should reflect their relative importance and frequency of use. For example, if you have a form that is used to input both required information and optional information, the controls for the required information are more important and should receive greater prominence. In Western cultures, user interfaces are typically designed to be read left-to-right and top-to-bottom. The most important or frequently used controls are most easily accessed at the top of a form. Controls that will be used after a user completes an action on a form, such as a Submit button, should follow the logical flow of information and be placed at the bottom of the form. It is also necessary to consider the relatedness of information. Related information should be displayed in controls that are grouped together. For example, if you have a form that displays information about a customer, a purchase order, or an employee, you can group each set of controls on a Tab control that allows a user to easily move back and forth between displays. Aesthetics is also an important consideration in the placement of controls. You should try to avoid forms that display more information than can be understood at a glance. Whenever possible, controls should be adequately spaced to create visual appeal and ease of accessibility.

public override string Value { get { return strValue; } } Finally, the Value property simply returns the value stored in the strValue variable. Note that strValue gets assigned in the ReadAttributeValue() method. The remaining properties and methods are not implemented by the TableReader class. Compile the class library and you should get an assembly, TableReader.dll. This assembly can be used in client applications to work with OLEDB databases and XML.

We start this class by extending BasicView to bypass all the setup work. The BasicView class automatically sets up our camera, renderer, and scene and adds the hooks to allow us to start and stop rendering our file. Since we are extending the BasicView class, we need to be sure to call super() in the constructor. Otherwise, our BasicView will be of very little use to us. Our next line of code inside our constructor creates a sphere that is a primitive object of Papervision. Finally, we add our sphere to the scene and then call startRendering(). There are two ways to render your scene. You can use singleRender(), which does exactly what it sounds like. It will render the scene only once. Using singleRender() is fine if you want a snapshot of what is happening or plan on continually calling it as needed from a Tween engine, such as TweenLite. Calling startRendering() starts a frame loop to constantly render your 3D. This is great if you know you re always going to have objects in your scene animating. Since 3D in Flash is a processor intensive action you would want to call stopRendering() as much as possible when the constant render is not needed. Now that we have our class that extends BasicView, it s time to add it to our Flex application. Here is our application code.

The purpose of side-by-side deployment is to allow application authors to safely deploy and update applications/assemblies while allowing assemblies to be shared safely. Windows XP does this by supporting two key features: side-by-side assemblies and isolated application installation. Support for side-by-side assemblies allows multiple versions of an assembly to be installed and run at the same time. Support for isolated applications ensures that the installation of one application does not affect an application that is already installed. The benefits of side-by-side deployment are as follows: Applications written, and tested, against a specific assembly are executed against the same assembly. You can deploy an application by simply using an xcopy mechanism. Installing an application no longer requires a reboot. Side-by-side deployment relies on components, and applications use metadata to describe themselves rather than the registry (which is what previous versions of Windows recommended). Moreover, shared assemblies go into a well-known folder, %WinDir%\WinSxS, where they are managed by version. Side-by-side deployment exploits the idea of self-containment, as depicted in Figure 6-1.
