n the first three chapters, you looked at Ajax and Atlas and how you can use them to build web applications that provide slick, clean, high-performing user interfaces by restricting the need for postbacks to the server and that use the intelligence of the browser on the client side. In this chapter, and the next, you will learn more details about the controls that Atlas gives you to empower your development skills. Although Atlas provides a foundation for building rich client applications using scripting, Atlas implements many common functionalities for you via client-side controls. I will cover these controls in this chapter and cover the server-side controls in 5. Specifically, in this chapter you will learn how to use the following: Atlas client-side controls: You will learn how to use the built-in client-side controls available to JavaScript or the XML-based Atlas Script. Atlas Script: You will learn how to construct client-side interfaces using XML with the new Atlas Script. You will define how controls appear on the page and hook them up to events, also defined in XML. In 5, I ll cover actions, behaviors, and data binding, and I ll cover how to extend existing controls and how to create new controls.

The global.asax is the most common way to inherit from HttpApplication, and this file is given special treatment by the Framework. Namely, its events are automatically wired. HTTP modules are set up within a specific application via the web.config file. The advantage with HTTP modules is that any number can be set up to extend the pipeline at the server level or within a specific application. The ASP .NET Framework uses dozens of these to provide a lot of built-in functionality. Finally, request processing can be customized using HttpHandlers. Again, dozens of these are used within the shipping version of the Framework to process different types of requests. Doing custom request processing is as easy as creating a type that implements the IHttpHandler interface, and there are several options for configuring a handler within an application. In the next section, we ll shift the focus from the pipeline down to the Page handler. This complex handler processes all requests for ASPX files. We ll also take a look under the hood at how the type that inherits from System.Web.UI.Page is transformed into a stream of HTML.

Figure 5-7. The Play icon is just one of the controls you can use to test your Storyboards in Blend. You can see there are other controls located in the same area that help you to test and manipulate your Storyboards before you use them in your running applications. The other controls are, in order, the Go to first frame, Go to previous frame, play, Go to next frame, and finally Go to last frame Buttons.

Implement WS-Security Using the WSE 3.0 Toolkit
static ReviewService LocalService; static void Main(string[] args) { using(WorkflowRuntime workflowRuntime = new WorkflowRuntime()) { LocalService = new ReviewService() ; workflowRuntime .AddService (LocalService); AutoResetEvent waitHandle = new AutoResetEvent(false); workflowRuntime.WorkflowCompleted += delegate(object sender, WorkflowCompletedEventArgs e) {waitHandle.Set();}; workflowRuntime.WorkflowTerminated += delegate(object sender, WorkflowTerminatedEventArgs e) { Console.WriteLine(e.Exception.Message); waitHandle.Set(); }; WorkflowInstance instance = workflowRuntime.CreateWorkflow(typeof (CCommunicationSequentialConsoleApplication.Workflow1)); instance.Start(); waitHandle.WaitOne(); } } After adding this code, the workflow runtime will recognize the ReviewService class as a service class that defines a communication channel with the workflow. Add a breakpoint to the second line of code just added. Also, open ReviewService.vb and add a breakpoint to the message box line. Execute the workflow. The first breakpoint is encountered, and the workflow runtime adds a copy of the ReviewService class to the runtime as a service. The workflow runtime then creates an instance of the workflow. The CallExternalMethod activity is encountered; then the message box within the CreateReview function is encountered. The message box appears with Reviewer: Me in it.
3. In the third box, enter 2000 as the minimum dollar amount and, in the fourth box, enter 5000 as the maximum dollar amount. The values entered in the minimum and maximum boxes will be included in the filter results. In this example, any weeks with total sales from 2000, up to and including 5000, will be shown.

Clicking Start allows you to shortcut the starting/enabling of all those individual ports and simply get things up and running. If you click through each of the folders, you should find that everything is running and ready.
