public event EventHandler<SelectObjectArgs> SelectObject; internal void OnSelectObject(SelectObjectArgs e) { if (SelectObject != null) SelectObject(this, e); } EventHandler<T> is a generic template in the .NET Framework that simplifies the declaration of event handler type events. Notice that the OnSelectObject() method is internal in scope. It will only be called by CslaDataSourceView, and shouldn t be visible to UI or business developers.

Now that you have a useful message type, you need to get these failed messages into the orchestration. You also need to retrieve these failed messages from the BizTalk message box. You ll need to create a direct port, which you haven t done in earlier examples. 1. Drag a Receive shape onto the designer. Name it GetFailed. 2. Set the Activate property to True. 3. Set the Message property to FailedMessage. 4. Right-click the leftmost port surface and select New Configured Port. 5. As the wizard progresses, name the port RetrieveFailedPort and set the port type as RetrieveFailedPortType. When asked to specify the port direction, this is where you ll part ways from the ordinary ports that you have created previously. You are indeed Always Receiving Messages on this port, but you need to select Direct from the Port Binding drop-down list. Other options will appear, but you re only concerned with selecting the first. This will allow you to filter by an expression, rather than by a specified receive port. Click Next, and then click Finish. 6. You need to add the required expression to the Receive shape so that the filter will be applied within the orchestration. Highlight the Receive shape in the designer, locate the Filter Expression property, and click the ellipsis to bring up the editor. Select ErrorReport.ErrorType in the Property column and add FailedMessage to the Value column, as shown in Figure 11-18.

There are a few last things to look at in the Designer before we get to building our state machine. First of all, in your sample project, notice that the state that was added automatically for us by the template is named Workflow1InitialState. This touches on a concept that says that each state machine must have one state designated as the Initial state. This is where our workflow begins its processing. At the opposite end, there can be, but doesn t have to be, a state designated as the Completed state. It will not be unusual to have a state machine that does not ever really end. It continues moving from state to state in response to various triggers. It may live in a given state for years, but it technically never ends, so we don t have have to have a Completed state. With that said, I typically add a Completed state to my state machines because I can usually think of some situation that would bring about the end of the workflow. There are two ways to designate these special states: 1. Right-click on an activity and select either Set as Initial State or Set as Completed State. 2. Click on the Designer canvas itself and look at the Properties window for the workflow as a whole. You ll see an InitialStateName property and a CompletedStateName property. To stop a state from being designated as one of these special roles, you need to either remove it from the property name in option 2 or else assign another activity to that state via the context menu. Finally, you can tell visually in the Designer which activities are fulfilling the Initial and Completed roles because the icon in the header of the activity changes, as shown in Figure 6-18.

As discussed in 2, editable business objects and collections support n-level undo functionality. Sometimes, however, objects may have values that shouldn t be included in the snapshot that s taken before an object is edited. (These may be read-only values, or recalculated values, or values large images, perhaps that are simply so big you choose not to support undo for them.) The custom attribute NotUndoable is used to allow a business developer to indicate that a field shouldn t be included in the undo operation. The UndoableBase class, which implements the n-level undo operations, detects whether this attribute has been placed on any fields. If so, it will simply ignore that field within the undo process, neither taking a snapshot of its value nor restoring it in the case of a cancel operation.
The first overload can be called by a business developer if she wants to manually mark the object as changed. This is intended for use when unknown properties may have changed.
When we do this, we create a new struct value, just as we saw in 4. We how have two Product values, as illustrated by Figure 12-9.
