When you create a document with multiple pages, you can display thumbnails of the pages in the Document tab of the Properties panel When you view pages in this manner, you can use the Page tool (a handy device we show you how to use in the next section, Using the Page Tool ) to rearrange the order of the pages Follow these steps to modify the way thumbnails are displayed in the Document tab: 1 If necessary, click the Document tab in the Properties panel to make it active If the Properties panel is not open, choose Window Document The Document tab of the Properties panel opens 2 Click one of the buttons at the lower-left corner of the Document tab: The first button displays each page as a tiny thumbnail The second button displays each page as a medium-sized thumbnail The third button displays a thumbnail of the selected page only

The page thumbnails are displayed according to the button you selected FreeHand remembers your change the next time you open the Document tab You can also use the Document tab of the Properties panel to set Bleed and Resolution When you print a document, FreeHand places registration marks and crop marks according to the document size you specify Registration marks are the little cross hairs placed on the sides of a document that are aligned to get perfect registration of all the colors in the printing process Crop marks are the long tick marks at the corners of the page that tell the printer where to trim the printed sheet The Bleed value is a margin for error for the printer s page-trimming process When you enter a bleed value, the registration marks are moved in from the edge of the page without changing the document size If you re using a desktop printer and you add a bleed value to the document, you may need to increase the page size by that amount in your printer s setup dialog box, otherwise you ll get this error message: This document will not fit in the selected page size Refer to your printer manual to determine the maximum resolution the printer is capable of producing as well as how to modify the page size

When you create a multipage document, you use the Page tool to rearrange the order of pages and select and delete pages You find the Page tool it looks like a document with an arrow in it with all the other FreeHand tools, as you can see in Figure 2-5 To use the Page tool on a multipage document, do the following: 1 Deselect all objects, place your cursor inside the Document window, and then right-click A contextual menu appears 2 Choose View Fit All FreeHand refreshes the Document window to display all pages in the document 3 Select the Page tool from the Tools panel 4 Click a page to select it After selecting a page, you can move it to a different position This is like rearranging the papers on your desk Figure 2-5 shows a multipage document being rearranged with the Page tool

We know We haven t shown you how to save a document yet, and here s a section about opening them Well, when you first begin working with FreeHand, you may need to open existing FreeHand documents created by someone else, and you usually open existing documents before you can edit and save them, so here goes To open an existing document, follow these steps: 1 Choose File Open The Open dialog box appears 2 Navigate to the folder where the file is located 3 Select the file and then click Open FreeHand displays the document and associated pages in the Document window You can now edit the document
