hen you create an illustration with FreeHand MX, you start by launching the program and creating a new document After that, you can begin creating your masterpiece This process can involve getting the word out by adding text, creating artwork by making standard shapes with the shape tools or free-form shapes with the Pen tool, and setting a dividing line between elements in your illustration with the Line tool When you create objects for your illustrations, you can outline the object by defining a stroke, and add color to the object by defining the object s fill After you ve created the document, you can save it for future editing and refinement When your document is complete, you export the document to its intended destination In this chapter, you get an overview of the typical FreeHand workflow We also show you which tools you can use to create objects for your illustrations and point you in the right direction for additional information and tips

The default size for a FreeHand document is 612 x 792 points (8 1 2 x 11 inches), which is letter size You can modify the document size and add pages to the document by using the Document tab of the Properties panel You also use the Document tab to set the bleed value the amount of spillover of content that will be physically trimmed from the printed document and final output resolution of the document You can also modify parameters, such as the page orientation and the way thumbnails
