You begin a FreeHand project by creating a new document Creating a new document gives you a blank page that you use to assemble the artwork for your illustration You can create a new document one of two ways: Choose File New Document Click the New Document icon that looks like a blank letter in the Main toolbar To open the Main toolbar, choose Window Toolbars Main After you create a new document, it appears in the center of the Document window, as shown in Figure 2-1

You use the Document tab within the Properties panel to change the orientation of the document, change the size of the document, and so on If the Properties panel is open but the Object tab is active, you can click on the Document tab, shown in Figure 2-2, to make it active If the Properties panel is not open, choose Window Document

If you need to change the size of a document, you use the Document tab of the Properties panel You can choose from a standard document size, or create a custom size You also use the Document tab to change the document orientation from portrait (vertical) to landscape (horizontal) To modify the document size and orientation, follow these steps:

The first five presets are European sizes The available presets are as follows: A3: Creates a document sized 84189 x 119055 points A4: Creates a document sized 59527 x 84129 points

A5: Creates a document sized 41952 x 59527 points B4: Creates a document sized 70866 x 100060 points B5: Creates a document sized 49889 x 70866 points Legal: Creates a document sized 612 x 1008 points Letter: Creates a document sized 612 x 792 points Tabloid: Creates a document sized 792 x 1224 points Web: Creates a document sized 550 x 400 points, which incidentally is the default size for a Flash movie The default orientation for this preset is Landscape Custom: Choose this preset, and the x and y fields become available You can then enter values in these fields to create a document of the desired size The measurements in the preceding list are shown in points, the default FreeHand unit of measurement You will see different values if you change to a different unit of measurement (To change to a different unit of measurement, choose one from the Units drop-down list at the bottom of the Document window) For example, if you change the unit of measurement to inches, Letter size is 85 x 11 inches

You can choose from Portrait to create a document that is taller than it is wide, or Landscape to create a document that is wider than it is tall

If you use FreeHand to create storyboards or Flash movies, you can add as many pages as you need to get the job done When you add pages, you can format them using a previously created Master Page To add one or more pages to your document, follow these steps:
